Bianca Sierra: Bay Area Native Playing Around the World

This week our Goal Five player interview features Bianca Sierra @bfromthe_bayy. Bianca is a member of the Mexican Women’s National Team (Las Tri) and plays professionally in Iceland for Thor/KA. This week her team played for the Iceland Women’s League Cup title and won!  Congrats to her and Ari Calderon @ari_calderon5 (another Goal Five athlete) on the win.

Goal Five Athlete:  Bianca Sierra

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Livermore, California.

How long have you been with the Mexican National Team?

I made my first appearance in May 2010 with the full team.

How does it feel to represent Mexico at the highest level?

It’s an honor. Representing my family’s country is very special to me, and every time I put that jersey on I get butterflies in my stomach.

What is your favorite thing about Mexico?

Our values. Family is one of the most important elements in the Mexican culture. Our doors are always open to family members, as well as close friends to make everyone feel like they are at home.

What is your connection to Goal Five?

My connection to Goal Five is that I have the desire and am determined to give all girls around the world the opportunity to play the game.

What is your favorite piece of gear?

My favorite piece of gear would have to be the Equal Play shirt!  Having that written big across your chest makes a statement to all who read it!

What is your favorite pre-game song to listen to?

#1 - Nelly – I started listening to this with my dad while driving to State Cup games as a little girl!

Share a story where you really grew as a person or an athlete?

Coming to Europe to play professional soccer really changed my game. It opened my eyes to a whole different style of play and helped me grow as a player on and off the field.

What do you want to see achieved in the game of soccer?

I want to see little girls around the world given the opportunity regardless of their race and economic status to play the beautiful game of soccer!

If you weren't a professional athlete, what would you be?

I would be a physical therapist.

Goal Five is proud to be associated with athletes like Bianca, who want to see all girls given a chance to play the beautiful game. Congrats to Bianca and her teammates on their Iceland Women’s League Cup victory!
