What does Women’s Equality Day mean to you?
“Gender equality isn’t just a women’s issue. Everyone should care about this.” Facts.
For us, Women’s Equality Day is about celebrating the people who have been catalysts for change in the fight for gender equality, and recognizing that (while we’ve come far) we have a long road ahead. It’s about amplifying the voices of ALL people, regardless of gender, race, religion, or socioeconomic status, that have fought to achieve a more equal society. We are proud to be a part of this fight, and won’t stop until progress is made.
Women of all generations and backgrounds have made big strides in this movement, and their words have moved mountains. Luckily, we have a few incredible women in our circle who actively and authentically advocate for equality every day. We asked them, “what does Women’s Equality Day mean to you?” Here’s what they said:
Ann Kletz - CEO and Co-Founder
“For me, it’s a day of hopeful celebration that one day soon every girl around the world, from a young age, will never feel powerless or inferior—and that she will recognize her strengths and manifest her dreams. It’s also a day of solidarity for girls, women, boys and men to stand together and say, “this is not O.K. We must all do better”. Lastly, it’s a day to honor those girls and women who have come before us, sometimes risking their very lives, to push forward for gender equality and what is right and good and just in this world.”
Tziarra King - OL Reign Attacker and Goal Five Ambassador
“On this Women’s Equality Day, I feel grateful for the historical figures that have paved the way for gender equality. When we discuss women’s equality it’s important that we continue to value and respect the voices of ALL women. There have been times when the feminist movement has ignored key voices and issues from women who deserve to be heard. As we celebrate how badass women are, let’s also acknowledge how much work is still to be done. And let’s also be reminded that gender equality isn’t just a women’s issue. Everyone should care about this."
Lauren Barnes - OL Reign Defender and Goal Five Ambassador
“Women's Equality Day brings awareness to the past and future efforts to level the playing field for women throughout the world. I'm fortunate to be able to use my platform in sport to show every women, especially the younger generation that they can use their voice & action to change to the world."
Let’s acknowledge where we are, and look forward to where we’re going. Happy Women’s Equality Day, team!
