Behind The All New Triple V

Behind The All New Triple V

Inspired by a coach's need

When we sat down to create our latest pair of shorts, we met with one of our favorite friends of the brand, Tracy Hamm. Tracy is a former pro soccer player with a crazy impressive resume filled with countless wins and accolades. After playing she got into coaching, where she is now head coach of the women's soccer team at the University of California, Davis.

Players are obviously an essential part to the game, but equally as essential are the coaches. We wanted to make a short that gives a coach what she needs in order to be at her best and 100% focused on the task at hand. So, we asked Tracy what that short would look like, and then we went and made it.

G5: What was it like for you to be a part of the product development process?
Hamm: As coaches, we tend to always put our players first. What our needs are as a coach comes as an afterthought, so it was amazing to be included in the development process; It actually made me consider how I can use apparel for my needs.

What are your favorite features of this short?
I am always juggling a ton of things, literally and figuratively, so the pockets are clutch! I also love the rise of the short and seam detail.

What’s a challenge you’ve conquered as a female athlete/in your life?
There are little challenges all the time as an athlete - injuries, confidence, distractions, relationships, etc. I think the biggest challenge for me was recognizing being "great" doesn't mean that you are necessarily the best at something. It means that you're consistently good. That you consistently show up, challenge yourself and adapt. I've learned that adversity is a good thing.  Many athletes walk away when things get hard, but I've found that being consistent in my effort and commitment have made all the difference. I'm gritty and I know I can count on that.

How do you think you’ve influenced the lives of the girls you’ve coached?
I've tried to role model how much preparation can influence outcome and how it affects confidence in your craft and building trust amongst your team. Regardless of wins or losses, there is something very satisfying knowing you put your full heart into it.

What impact has a coach in your life left on you?
That having balance is important. Coaching takes an emotional toll when you do it right. Often times, the team is a reflection of the coach so helping your players find inspiration and joy in things off the field too can actually help performance and competition on the field. My coaches have influenced me to actively seek out opportunities for growth, even if it leaves you vulnerable. I hope my drive for learning and developing never fades. I want to be the best coach for my players and the best person I can be - that's what it's all about.

What do you keep in your pockets?
Keys, my phone, a roll of my dog Murphy's waste bags, and hair ties!

This is a short inspired by a coach’s needs, but how else would you use this short off the field?
This is the perfect 24 hour short! Head to morning training, to a meeting with an administrator, back to the office, to a quick workout at the the gym, then to dinner with friends, and finally to lounge on the couch while breaking down game film. These shorts can do it all.
